Excellent wood finishing results can be obtained using just a few tools and materials. You'll learn the basic steps to get a fine finish, using varnish, shellac and oil on practice boards. You'll also learn which brush or pad to use, and how to add color with stains, glazes and waxes. This is a one day intensive course with time for discussion.

Learn the basics of woodworking from a master craftsman. Bob will teach you about selecting and buying lumber, project design, joinery, lay out methods and tools, hand tools, sharpening, machine use and safety, and a whole lot more. Instruction will be a combination of lessons and hands-on activities to reinforce the skills you are shown. This class is an excellent way for someone to get started in the world of woodworking. You will learn many ' tricks of the trade’ and skills that will help you for future projects. Class will meet once a week, Thursdays, from 1-4 in the afternoon, for a total of ten weeks.
This class is for the more advanced beginner, or students who have taken Bob's Basic Woodworking 101 class. We will build on the woodworking knowledge you have already acquired, discover new techniques, processes and skills by building a cabinet with a fitted door and drawer. If time allows, we may progress to building a table with slab legs dovetailed to the top, and a stretcher mortised into the legs. You will meet every Thursday morning, from 8:30-11:30 for ten weeks. Material fee will include the cabinet. Additional projects will cost extra.

Roger will help you learn to get the most out of your router. You will learn how to select a router, do partial and full edge shaping, decorative and plain edging, dado and rabbet cuts, picture frame moldings, dovetails, etc. He will also discuss jigs, guides and templates.

Bring your own router or use one of ours. This class is designed to help you get familiar with a router's parts, setup and use. We'll do a number of exercises and projects, and you will learn edge routing, inside and outside profiling, various methods of holding your workpiece and how to use a router table. Space is limited!

Learn end grain hollowing as you make a round, keepsake box with a tight fitting lid. Matt will go over ways to hold the wood, tool selection and techniques, and of course safety. This is a new, challenging skill that will open up all sorts of different and exciting wood turning projects for you.
Demonstrations and discussions on how to select a table saw and operate it safely. Instruction will include basic cutting methods, making raised panels, joints and more. Also learn about jigs and fixtures you can build yourself.

Bob will cover the difference between natural stones, oil stones, diamond stones, and water stones. He will also teach you how to select a grinder, and use it to create the bevel you need. Feel free to bring bench chisels, plane irons, marking knives, lathe turning tools, and more. Or, you can sharpen some of ours!
We get so many questions about how to buy lumber and properly prepare it for our projects, that we’ve designed this class for you! Roger will cover selecting and buying lumber, and how it is graded and sold. He will also explain the differences in the ways lumber is sawn (flat sawn, rift sawn, quarter sawn) and why it is important to understand. Learn how to develop your stock list before you visit the lumber yard, and how to lay out and choose the right boards for your project. Book matches, slip matches and grain orientation will all be discussed. From there, you will learn the milling operations to go from rough sawn to ready to use lumber. Including; rough ripping, and cross-cutting, jointer operation, planer operation, table saw and band saw. All of this through demonstrations and individual hands-on activities. Save the return trips to the lumber yard, and get it right the first time!

Caring for antiques and fine furniture requires special attention to the finish. You'll learn about historical materials and techniques, and how to recreate traditional finishes using today's shellac, varnish, wax and natural pigments. New, safer finish removers make refinishing more enjoyable, but we'll also show you how to revive finishes without stripping. Feel free to bring a small item to touch up, or a problem photo for class discussion. Practice materials will be provided. Ten students maximum.
